The Bill Hickman Home

The house is no longer here, but while it stood it was certainly one of the most well known places in the city. Hickman was regarded by his fellow townsfolks as somewhat of a scoundrel, and whenever anything turned up missing this was the first place that was searched.

Once, Bishop John Carson found that his chicken coop had been raided during the night - there was only one chicken left. There were no clues, no feathers, or footprints; but the Bishop knew in his heart that Bill Hickman must have been the culprit. To his wife's dismay, he grabbed the last remaining chicken, wrung its neck and quickly plucked the feathers. These he stuffed into his pockets. He then walked up the street to Hickman's house, dropping feathers along the way. When he saw Hickman, who was having chicken for breakfast, he accused him of stealing the chickens and pointed to the trail of feathers as proof. Bill Hickman couldn't believe that he had been so sloppy, but faced with the evidence, he apologized and promised to return the stolen chickens.
