Historic Stagecoach Inn

Built by John Carson in 1858

Restored by the Utah State Park and Recreation Commition

Dedicated "Camp Floyd State Park - Stagecoach Inn" May 16, 1964

In 1855, Fairfield was settled by John Carson, William Carson, David Carson, William Beardshall, and John Clegg. A rock fort, four rods square, was built in 1856-1857. The monument now stands at the southeast corner of the fort.

In 1860 Fairfield was Utah's third largest city, with a population of 7,000 people, including the 3,000 soldiers.

In 1858 John Carson built what is now known as the "Stagecoach Inn." Here his family lived and operated a hotel for travelers from that time until its doors closed in 1947. It was restored by Utah State Park and Recreation Commission and dedicated May 16, 1964. A brief history and tour of the Inn follows.
